Arther A. Smith Award

Yesterday, I was awarded the Arthur A. Smith Outstanding Student Award by DABE for my paper, "Luck for Sale: How a Private Firm Might Run the Texas Lottery." A larger version of the paper is located here.

Special thanks to Dr. Craig Depken for all his help and support. The paper remains to be a work in progress. Dr. Depken and I are currently preparing a version to be submitted for peer-review publication.

Following the award ceremony, Carol Anderson-Guthrie from the Government Accountability Office presented a compelling argument that socialist policies (specifically Medicare, Medicaid, and social security) will turn into major congressional budgeting problems in the not so distant future if no legislation reforms are passed. The presentation can be found here. It reminded me of research done by Laurence J. Kotlikoff. He wrote an interesting paper, “Is the United States Bankrupt?”
