In a symbolic gesture, Senator Obama used the event to write a $US2300 ($2400) personal cheque for Senator Clinton, who must find a way to retire her campaign debt, campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe said. The amount is the most Senator Obama can offer under federal law.
He told the fundraisers that a way must be found to retire his former rival's debt. "I'm going to need Hillary by my side campaigning during this election, and I'm going to need all of you," he said.
The Austrailian
Obama is doing one of two things. He is either trying to attract former Clinton supporters to his campaign or he is trying to make Senator Clinton a viable vice-presidential candidate. A more cynical explanation is that this was the way that he convinced Clinton to finally drop out in the first place. I think one of these possibilities would bode very well for my prediction.

I think Hillary is out as a VP candidate. There is a positive probability that Obama loses in November and she wouldn't want to be associated with a losing ticket for her 2012 run (which will happen).
Retiring the debt is how she was convinced to drop out of the race (technically to suspend her campaign). Promises of future rewards/positions were likely what knocked John Edwards and Bill Richardson out of the campaign as well.
If Romney is chosen as VP for McCain, then it might be that he was convinced to leave through the same technique.
